Minister of State Kent Congratulates the People of Bolivia on the Occasion of Their Independence Day

No. 217 - August 6, 2009 (4 p.m. EDT) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today congratulated the people of Bolivia as they celebrate their country’s Independence Day.

"Canada extends congratulations to the people of Bolivia as they celebrate the 184th anniversary of their country’s independence," said Minister Kent. "Canada and Bolivia share a long history of relations, enhanced by the cultural diversity within our two countries and the strong personal ties between our citizens. I look forward to ongoing cooperation between our two countries."

Canada and Bolivia established diplomatic relations in 1961, and since then, representatives from both countries have met regularly to discuss bilateral, regional and multilateral issues.

Another important link between the two countries is Bolivia’s large Mennonite community, which includes some 12,000 people of Canadian origin.
