Modification - Minister of State Kent to Attend First Conference of the Americas on International Education

Modification: dates of IDB annual meeting

(No. 343 - Modification - October 21, 2010 - 10:45 a.m. ET) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today announced he will address the first Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) on October 22, 2010, in Calgary.

“Higher education is an important aspect of our policy of engagement in the Americas, and hosting this conference demonstrates Canada’s commitment to our hemispheric partners,” said Minister of State Kent.

More than 600 high-level delegates from over 40 countries are expected at the CAIE. Speakers and representatives will include senior officials and heads of international organizations and associations, including the European Commission and UNESCO.

The CAIE provides a forum for representatives of educational institutions in Canada and throughout the Americas to meet and to promote academic mobility and collaboration in the region. Canada’s objective is to make the CAIE an annual event.

Minister of State Kent will travel to Calgary on October 21 to hold a series of meetings with stakeholders and media in advance of the annual meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which will take place in Calgary from March 25 to 28, 2011.

The IDB is the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Canada is a non-borrowing regional member.
