(No. 371 – December 10, 2011 – 10 a.m. ET) The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), today attended the inauguration of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as Argentina’s president.
“Argentina is a valued partner in Canada’s policy of engagement in the Americas, and we share a steadfast commitment to advancing prosperity, democracy, human rights and security in the hemisphere,” said Minister of State Ablonczy. “We look forward to continuing to work with President Fernández’s government to expand and deepen our long-standing relations.”
Canada and Argentina share a productive and wide-ranging relationship built on a commitment to multilateralism and similar perspectives on many global issues, including nuclear non-proliferation, human rights, democracy and the fight against terrorism. Argentina is also a key partner in Canada’s efforts in Haiti, and both countries are members of the Group of Friends of Haiti.
