Minister of State Ablonczy Commends Canadian Consular Officials for Successful Return of Abducted Children

May 28, 2012 - The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), today issued the following statement upon the successful return of two Canadian children abducted to Mexico three years ago:

“Canada is pleased that the Maryk children have been reunited with their mother, Emily Cablek, and have returned home to Winnipeg. I am glad this horrific episode in their lives has come to an end.

“Their safe return is the result of coordinated efforts. I sincerely thank Canadian consular officials, our partners in Mexico, the Winnipeg Police Service, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, Passport Canada, the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency for their hard work in locating and returning these children.

“I hope the reunited family can now rebuild their lives in Canada, and that justice is served with regard to those responsible for the abduction.”
