Ablonczy to Attend OAS General Assembly in Bolivia

June 1, 2012 - The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), will attend the 42nd Regular Session of the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly, which will take place in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from June 3 to 5, 2012.

“Canada believes in a strong and effective OAS,” said Minister of State Ablonczy. “Security, prosperity and good governance are three priority areas of Canada’s engagement in our hemisphere. I look forward to working with all member states, in particular to strengthen the ability of the OAS to protect our hemisphere from a broad range of security threats.

“Our government is committed to working constructively to promote regional economic integration,” added the Minister of State. “We will work with our partners on concrete ways to enhance prosperity in the hemisphere.”

In addition to attending the formal plenary sessions of the general assembly, Minister of State Ablonczy will participate in private dialogues on key hemispheric issues with heads of other delegations. She will participate in a ministerial-level meeting of the Summit Implementation Review Group. Minister of State Ablonczy will also hold bilateral meetings with OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza and foreign ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean.
