Minister Ablonczy Issues Statement on Paraguay’s Presidential Election

April 22, 2013 - The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), today issued the following statement:

“Canada welcomes the peaceful and orderly conduct of Paraguay’s presidential election, which demonstrates the Paraguayan people’s commitment to freedom and democracy.

“We have followed the election in Paraguay closely, and we are pleased to have supported the electoral observation mission from the Organization of American States.

“Canada congratulates president-elect Horacio Cartes on his victory and looks forward to working with the incoming government to further strengthen our partnership with the people of Paraguay. We will continue to work with Paraguay and our partners throughout the region to build a more secure, prosperous and democratic hemisphere.”
