Minister of State Yelich Completes First Round of Meetings with Stakeholders

August 30, 2013 - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), met with stakeholders across Canada over the last two weeks to raise awareness of the various services the federal government provides to Canadians abroad.

“Creating and strengthening partnerships with stakeholders is crucial to helping Canadians abroad make safe and responsible choices,” said Minister of State Yelich. “We are committed to providing the best consular service in every region of the world.”

Minister of State Yelich met with representatives of various segments of the travel industry, including airlines, tour companies and associations. The main objective of the tour was to discuss effective and innovative ways to collaborate on providing safe-travel information and tools to Canadians so that they can make informed travel decisions.

“In the past year, our government has enhanced consular services to Canadians, including the launch of an improved Travel.gc.ca website with user-friendly travel advisories and a simplified Registration of Canadians Abroad,” added Minister Yelich. “Today, Canadians can access our consular staff through Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, as well as via a new mobile web application. These services are designed to promote the personal safety and security of Canadians working, living and travelling abroad.”

Minister of State Yelich visited five Canadian cities during her tour.
