Minister of State Yelich to Travel to Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan

May 18, 2014 - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), today announced that she will travel to the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan from May 19 to 23, 2014. During her visit, Minister Yelich will attend the Astana Economic Forum in Kazakhstan to take part in a panel discussion on women in new economies. She will also meet with a number of business, political and religious leaders.

“I am very happy to be travelling to Central Asia to advance our government’s economic and political interests and to promote religious freedom in the region,” said Minister Yelich. “I also look forward to providing a Canadian perspective on the important role of women in the economy and the political sphere at the Astana Economic Forum.”

Canada has a strong mining and agricultural presence in the region and is seeking to further strengthen ties in these areas, as well as to support Canadian interests in aerospace and geological exploration technologies for the natural resources sector.
