Canada Condemns Attack on India’s Consulate in Afghanistan

May 23, 2014 - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), today issued the following statement:

“Canada condemns in the strongest terms the vicious attack on the Indian consulate in Herat province, Afghanistan.

“Terrorist acts such as these are unjustifiable under any circumstances and will not be tolerated.

“We commend the work of the Afghan National Security Forces in responding quickly to the incident and underscore the importance of bringing the perpetrators, organizers, and sponsors of this reprehensible act to justice.

“This attack is a stark reminder of the challenges that Afghanistan continues to face and the need to remain vigilant in combatting extremism. Canada remains committed to helping Afghanistan build a stable, secure and democratic country that will never again be a safe haven for terrorists.”
