Minister Ablonczy and Guatemala’s Attorney General Dr. Paz y Paz Tour Forensic Lab
October 11, 2012 - Guatemala City - The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs) and Dr. Claudia Paz y Paz, Guatemala’s Attorney General, tour the country’s forensic anthropology laboratory. Lab staff are working to identify evidence that will be used in the pursuit of justice for crimes committed during the Guatemalan civil war. Today, Minister Ablonczy announced $1.2 million in Canadian support for the lab’s work.
Dr. Paz y Paz, a doctor in criminal law and human rights, former lawyer and the country’s first female attorney general, has been instrumental in bringing criminals and human rights abusers to justice, and has been widely recognized for her efforts.
