Minister Yelich Meets Representatives of Canadian Mining Companies Operating in Kyrgyz Republic

May 19, 2014 - Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), meets with senior officials of Kumtor Operating Company (top photo), a wholly owned subsidiary of Centerra Gold, a Canadian-based gold mining and exploration company.

Kumtor runs the largest gold mine operated in Central Asia by a Western-based company and is the Kyrgyz Republic’s largest employer. During her meeting, Minister Yelich highlighted the Canadian government’s commitment to the responsible development and success of Canada’s mining industry abroad.

She also met with officials from Stans Energy Corp. (bottom photo). In December 2009, Stans Energy Corp. acquired a 20-year licence to redevelop a rare earth elements mine in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Minister Yelich is in the Kyrgyz Republic to support Canadian business in the region.
