Minister Yelich Attends Presidential Inauguration in Uruguay

March 1, 2015 - Montevideo, Uruguay - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), attends the inauguration of president-elect Tabaré Vázquez.

“The Government of Canada congratulates president-elect Vázquez and looks forward to working with him as we continue to deepen and intensify cooperation between our two countries,” said Minister Yelich.

While in Uruguay, Minister Yelich met with president-elect Tabaré Vázquez; Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Uruguay’s minister-designate of foreign affairs; Carolina Cosse, minister-designate of industry, energy and mining; and Canadian business representatives. Uruguay is identified as an emerging priority market in the Americas under Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan.

Minister Yelich also visited the International Development Research Centre’s (IDRC) regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean, where she met with IDRC representatives to discuss Canada’s engagement in the region.
