The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, will travel to Japan and China from April 8 to 17, 2009. Minister Day will showcase Canada as an engaged partner, important investment destination and supplier of high-quality goods and services. The visit will help open doors for Canadian businesses in a number of sectors, including energy-efficient construction, technology and transportation.
In Japan, Minister Day will promote Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway to officials and business representatives. In China, he will work to advance key negotiations aimed at increasing two-way investment and expanding cooperation in science and technology. He will also visit Beichuan, an area hard-hit by the May 2008 earthquake in Sichuan province. Canada was a major foreign donor to Sichuan earthquake relief.
