(No. A/107 - November 6, 2009) The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, will visit Southeast Asia from November 9 to 15, 2009.
Minister Day will first lead a trade mission to Thailand from November 9 to 10.
He will then attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting in Singapore from November 11 to 12. He will use the summit as an opportunity to highlight the need to avoid protectionism, to promote Canada as a great place to invest, and to promote Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway as a fast and efficient way to reach the North American market.
Minister Day will visit the Philippines on November 13, where he will strengthen economic ties and highlight the successes of Canadian companies in the Philippines in the agri-food, transportation, infrastructure and extractive sectors. He will also tour areas devastated by Tropical Storm Ketsana in September and distribute relief supplies.
The Minister will then accompany Prime Minister Stephen Harper to the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Singapore from November 14 to 15.
