Minister Van Loan to Visit China and Japan

Minister will promote Canada’s economic success story in Asia

(No. A/96 - May 28, 2010) The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade, will travel to China and Japan from May 31 to June 7, 2010, to promote Canada’s competitive advantages and global economic leadership.

Minister Van Loan will visit Beijing and Shanghai from May 31 to June 3. While in China, the Minister will meet with government leaders and business executives. He will also promote Canadian business and investment opportunities at Expo 2010 Shanghai.

From June 4 to 6, Minister Van Loan will be in Sapporo, Japan, for the APEC meeting of trade ministers. In preparation for the G-8 and G-20 summits in Canada this year, the Minister will underscore the importance of free and open trade to global economic recovery.

On June 7, following the APEC meeting, the Minister will be in Tokyo, where he will attend meetings with his Japanese counterparts and Canadian businesses active in Japan.
