Reminder - International Trade Minister Peter Van Loan Promotes Benefits of Trade Agreement with European Union to Italian Businesses

Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association to hear benefits of Canada’s aggressive free trade agenda

(No. A/158 - October 20, 2010) The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade, will speak to the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association to highlight the benefits of free trade with the European Union.

Minister Van Loan will discuss the importance of the Canada-Italy relationship and the potential for the Canada-EU trade agreement to create new jobs and opportunities for Canadian entrepreneurs. Canada and Italy share a rich commercial history, with bilateral merchandise trade of over $6 billion in 2009.

A Canada-European Union joint economic study released in October 2008 shows that free trade between the two could boost Canada’s economy by at least $12 billion annually and could increase two-way trade with the European Union by over 20 percent.

Minister Van Loan will also highlight the Italian Canadian community’s wide range of contributions to Canada's history and economic success.
