Minister Van Loan to Promote Canada-Europe Trade Relations During European Visit

Trade minister to visit Sweden, Belgium and Spain next week

(No. A/76 - April 30, 2010) The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade, will travel to Europe next week, visiting Sweden from May 3 to 4, 2010, Belgium May 4 to 5, and Spain May 6 to 7.

Minister Van Loan will promote the Canada-Europe trade partnership and highlight Canada’s competitive advantages to European partners. Canada and the European Union are in the process of negotiating an ambitious comprehensive economic and trade agreement to open doors for business, create jobs and secure lasting prosperity.

In Sweden, Minister Van Loan will promote trade and commercial ties by meeting with his Swedish counterparts and key business leaders.

In Belgium, he will join Prime Minister Stephen Harper at the Canada-EU Summit in Brussels and promote the Canada-Europe trade partnership.

While in Spain, Minister Van Loan will meet his Spanish counterparts, as well as deliver the keynote speech to the Canada-Spain Chamber of Commerce.
