Harper Government Expanding Trade, Investment and Security Links with Israel

Visits by ministers Fast and Baird to focus on strengthening ties and getting results

June 14, 2013 - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today announced that they will visit Israel to further strengthen ties between our two countries.

Minister Fast will visit Israel in early July to promote greater science, technology and innovation collaboration between the two countries, as well as to highlight how deeper trade and investment ties are a win-win for Canadians and Israelis alike.

“Our government’s top priority is the economy—creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for hard-working Canadians and their families,” said Minister Fast. “As we continue work to refresh our Global Commerce Strategy, Israel—a dynamic economy—is a priority market for Canada, and we are committed to growing the Canadian economy by helping our world-class businesses expand and succeed in global markets.”

Minister Baird will be in Israel from June 17 to 19, as part of a four-day visit to the Middle East that will also include stops in Amman and Ramallah. While in Israel, Baird will further work on a strategic partnership agreement announced in April and will also attend the Israeli Presidential Conference on behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

“Our shared values are a foundation for future growth that benefits both countries,” said Baird. “We are looking at various ways to further our relationship, agree on timelines and get to work to meet our targets.”
