Canadian know-how and technology in forest- and building-products industry in demand in Japan
Japan -- June 6, 2010
The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade, visits a 7-Eleven in Sapporo, Japan, one of the first 7-Eleven stores constructed in Japan using Canadian two-by-four wood-frame construction technology and wood products imported from Canada. There are currently two other stores under construction using the Canadian technology, which was chosen for sturdiness, design and energy efficiency reasons. The company has plans to build several more such stores in the country.
This initiative demonstrates Canadian leadership in the forest- and building-products industry, where significant opportunities exist in Japan.
During his visit to Japan, Minister Van Loan strengthened ties with officials and leaders to foster collaboration and open doors for Canadian business in Japan.
