Minister Fast in Australia to Pursue Deeper Asia-Pacific Trade
April 30, 2012 - Canberra, Australia - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, with Australia’s Minister of Trade and Competitiveness, Craig Emerson.
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today was in Canberra, where he met with key Australian government officials including his counterpart Minister of Trade and Competitiveness Craig Emerson. The ministers discussed ways to build on Canada and Australia’s excellent bilateral relationship by further deepening trade and investment ties.
During his meeting with Minister Emerson, Minister Fast said that Canada’s inclusion in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations would give Australia improved access to our $1.7 trillion economy, and 34.5 million consumers, greater access to North American supply chains, and that deeper ties would create jobs and prosperity for Canadians and Australians alike on both sides of the Pacific.
Minister Fast’s visit to Australia is part of his ongoing visits to all current TPP member countries. After Australia, Minister Fast will head to New Zealand, another TPP member.
