Minister Fast Meets with Burmese Business Leaders

September 1, 2012 - Burma - The Honourable Ed Fast (left), Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, meets with Win Aung (right), President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce Industry (UMFCCI), and other directors of the UMFCCI in Yangon to discuss opportunities and challenges related to Burma’s evolving business environment.

Minister Fast explained that the Government of Canada believes that cautious Canadian investment can help anchor and expand Burmese reforms while positioning Canadian companies for future opportunities. He noted that Canadian companies are strong and responsible business partners.

Minister Fast is the first Canadian government minister to visit Burma since Canada announced significant easing of its trade sanctions, and the first Canadian trade minister ever to visit Burma.

UMFCCI is Burma’s most prominent business association, consisting of almost 24,000 members.
