International Trade Minister Meets with Trade Mission Participants in Burma

September 2, 2012 - Burma - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, is joined by representatives of Canadian companies participating in Canada’s trade mission to Burma, as well as by the president and members of the Thai-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. This group represents companies in a range of sectors including environmental, financial and professional services, IT/telecommunications and tourism.

The objectives of this trade mission are to familiarize participating companies with Burma’s evolving economic environment, develop working relationships on the ground, and gain insights into the Burmese market’s needs, challenges and rapidly changing regulatory environment.

Canadian companies can play a role in improving the lives of the Burmese people through trade, investment, and transfers of technology and know-how.

Minister Fast is leading a trade mission to four countries—Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Burma—as part of the government’s pro-trade plan to create jobs and increase prosperity for hard-working Canadians.
