March 12, 2013 - New York City - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, congratulates DAVIDsTEA, a successful Canadian specialty tea retailer on the launch of its four stores in New York City—three in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn. DAVIDsTEA is making great strides in sharing its founders’ passion for tea, with 15 locations in the United States— in New York City, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.

“Companies such as DAVIDsTEA are tapping into new global markets and helping bring jobs and prosperity to the United States and Canada,” said Minister Fast. “We are proud of the success and entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated by DAVIDsTEA, and we will continue to put in place the right tools and policies to help other Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises succeed abroad.”

David Segal, then in his twenties, established the first store in Toronto in 2008 with his cousin Herschel Segal, a retail industry pioneer who founded Canada’s Le Chateau clothing store. “DAVIDsTEA stores are built around a tea experience, with stellar customer service delivered by our ‘tea guides’,” said Jevin Eagle, CEO of  DAVIDsTEA. “We offer over 150 types of tea, including exclusive blends, limited-edition seasonal collections and traditional teas from around the world. We pride ourselves on our strong roots in the communities in which we operate.”
