Minister Fast Meets New Chinese Counterpart

April 16, 2013 - Beijing, China - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, holds his first bilateral meeting with Gao Hucheng, China’s newly appointed minister of commerce. The two ministers discussed how Canada and China can further strengthen their growing and mutually beneficial trade and investment relationship.

In 2012, China surpassed the United Kingdom to become Canadas second-largest export market, with exports growing by 15 per cent. The value of bilateral merchandise trade between Canada and China now stands at $70 billion.

Minister Fast is on a two-week visit to Asia that includes stops in the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Hong Kong, Beijing, Harbin and Tianjin before he attends the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministers Responsible for Trade meeting in Indonesia.
