A Canadian Success Story: Westport Innovations Helps Improve China’s Air Quality

April 16, 2013 - Beijing, China - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, congratulates Husayn Anwar, President of Westport Innovations Inc. in Asia, on the one-year anniversary of China’s first natural-gas engine featuring Westport technology. The technology allows customers to replace up to 95 percent of a base diesel-engine’s fuel with cleaner-burning natural gas while maintaining the power and performance of the original engine. Weichai Westport Inc., a joint venture between Westport Innovations, a Canadian company, and China’s Weichai Power Co. Ltd., is now the world’s largest manufacturer of natural-gas engines.

Vancouver’s Westport Innovations is the global leader in natural-gas engines. In addition to engineering natural-gas engines, Westport also provides engineering expertise, global partnership strategies and market knowledge for compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas technologies. The company has over 1,000 employees worldwide.

Minister Fast is on a two-week visit to Asia that includes stops in the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Hong Kong, Beijing, Harbin and Tianjin before he attends the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministers Responsible for Trade meeting in Indonesia.
