Minister Cannon participates in UN General Assembly

Minister Cannon participated in the general debate of the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He delivered Canada’s statement to the Assembly on the evening of September 26.
During his visit, Minister Cannon:
- reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to collective action on the advancement of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law;
- met with his counterparts to advance Canadian priorities of peace, security, human rights, the Middle East and making the UN work more effectively;
- participated in ministerial meetings of the G8 and Commonwealth; and
- attended high-level meetings on Afghanistan and Haiti, a Security Council summit on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, and a meeting of the Group of Friends of Democratic Pakistan.
Minister of State Kent accompanied Minister Cannon to New York to represent Canada at a number of high-level multilateral meetings.
