November 2010

Minister Cannon travelled to Montreal to announce Canada's contribution to new headquarters for the Haitian National Police and training of first aid instructors on November 4, 2010.

Minister Cannon met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Paet, on November 4, 2010, to discuss a range of bilateral issues.
October 2010

Minister Cannon met with the Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria, Michael Spindelegger on October 28, 2010, to discuss a range of bilateral issues.

Minister Cannon travelled to Shanghai and Beijing on October 21 and 22, to enhance Canada’s engagement with China.

Minister Cannon travelled to the Holy See and Rome on October 17 to 18, to attend the canonization of Brother André and to meet with Franco Frattini, Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Cannon travelled to Brussels from October 13 to 15, to participate in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Foreign Ministers Meeting and the ministerial meeting of the Friends of Democratic Pakistan.

Minister Cannon announced Canada’s Action Plan for UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security and travelled to Montréal to present the
Prix International Courage au Féminin on October 5, 2010.
September 2010

Minister Cannon and Minister Kent met with Héctor Ricardo Lacognata Zaragoza, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay, in Ottawa on September 30, 2010, to discuss bilateral, multilateral and regional issues.

Minister Cannon and Minister of State Kent accompanied Prime Minister Harper to New York, to participate in the MDG Summit and the UN General Assembly, from September 21 to 27, 2010.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lawrence Cannon, travelled to Oslo, Moscow and Helsinki for bilateral meetings with his counterparts in each country from September 13 to 17, 2010.

Minister Cannon represented Canada at Special UN General Assembly Session on Pakistan Floods at the UN headquarters in New York City on August 19, 2010.
July 2010

Minister Cannon travelled to Vietnam from July 22 and 23, 2010, to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Post Ministerial Conference and the ASEAN Regional Forum.

Minister Cannon attended the Informal Ministerial Meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from July 16 to 17, 2010, in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Minister Cannon, Minister Kenney and Minister Oda reiterated Canada’s unwavering commitment to Haiti’s long-term reconstruction and reaffirmed the country’s solidarity with the Haitian people, six months after the January 12 earthquake, on july 12, 2010.

Minister Cannon visited London and Paris from June 29 to July 1, 2010, and will attend the 10th Anniversary of the Community of Democracies conference in Krakow, Poland, from July 2 to 4.

Minister Cannon met with Michel Rocard, the Ambassador of France for International Negotiations on the Arctic and the Antarctic and former French prime minister, to discuss cooperation in the Arctic, on June 14, 2010, in Ottawa.

Ministers Cannon and Verner met with Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, and Abdou Diouf, Secretary-General of La Francophonie, in Ottawa on June 9, 2010.

Minister Cannon accompanied Prime Minister Harper to the United Kingdom and France from June 2 to 4.

Minister Cannon and John Baird, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, welcomed Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, upon his arrival in Ottawa on May 30, 2010.

Minister Cannon and Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs Patricia Espinosa signed a Memorandum Of Understanding on Youth Mobility, on May 27, 2010, which will make it easier for qualified Canadian and Mexican youth to travel and work in each other's country for up to one year for a unique life experience that will stimulate their personal and professional development.

Minister Cannon delivered a speech on Haiti at the International Conference of the Groupe de réflexion et d’action pour une Haïti nouvelle [Reflection and Action Group for a New Haiti] (GRAHN), on May 21, 2010, in Montréal.

Minister Cannon delivered a keynote speech at the Council of the Americas’ 40th annual Washington Conference on the Americas on May 12, 2010, at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

Minister Cannon travelled to Haiti from May 5 to 7, 2010, to highlight Canada’s engagement in Haiti and demonstrate Canada’s continued solidarity with the Haitian people.

Minister Cannon met with Shirin Ebadi, winner of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize in Ottawa on April 27, 2010.

Minister Cannon offered Canada’s condolences in honour of the victims of the recent plane crash that claimed the lives of the President of Poland and the First Lady, at the Polish embassy in Ottawa on April 15, 2010.

Minister Cannon concluded his visit to the Arctic, where he met those collecting data to prepare Canada’s submission to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

Canada participated in the International Donors’ Conference Towards a New Future for Haiti, at the United Nations headquarters in New York on March 31, 2010.

The Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Gatineau, Quebec, March 29 and 30. In Gatineau, ministers discussed three broad themes: nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament; terrorism; and security vulnerabilities.

Minister Cannon and Minister Finley participated in the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the UN Headquarters, on March 11, 2010.

Minister Cannon and Minister of State Kent hosted an event celebrating Canada's important contributions to the OAS’s collective achievements, on March 8, 2010.

Minister Cannon met with Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alexander Stubb in Ottawa on February 11, 2010. They discussed Arctic issues and the G8 and G20 summits Canada is hosting in June 2010.

Minister Cannon attended the 14th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from January 29 to 31.

Minister Cannon traveled to London to attend a meeting of foreign ministers on Yemen and the Conference on Afghanistan. Discussions focused on security, political and social issues.
