Minister of State Ablonczy Travels to Brazil

Minister Ablonczy visits a Maple Bear school in Brazil

The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), visits Brazil from August 24 to 31, 2012 to expand Canada’s relations with Brazilian municipal and state leaders and partners.

While in Brazil, the Minister of State will visit the state of Minas Gerais, where she will meet with the state’s governor, Antônio Junho Anastasia, as well as with municipal authorities, representatives of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce and partners in the area of education.

Minister of State Ablonczy will then travel to the state of Rio Grande do Sul, including to the cities of Caxias do Sul and Porto Alegre, for meetings with the state’s governor, Tarso Genro, as well as with other state officials, the Caxias do Sul chamber of industry, commerce and services, mayors and local leaders, and partners in the area of science, technology and innovation.

The Minister of State will also visit the city of Barretos, in the state of São Paulo, where she will pay a courtesy call on Mayor Emanoel Mariano Carvalho, as well as visit the Hospital de Câncer de Barretos (Barretos cancer hospital), where Canadian and Brazilian researchers collaborate, and attend an international rodeo competition with ties to the Calgary Stampede.
