Official Events

To inform the Office of Protocol and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of an official event on official premises and request security services, simply send a diplomatic note through your mission with date, time, location, and nature of the event. The Protective Services Branch of the RCMP will be contacted to evaluate the need for security at the specific event, which will, in turn, be communicated to the Embassy by way of diplomatic note.

A mission may also wish to advise the Office of Protocol and RCMP of events taking place outside of official premises; however such events are normally considered to be the jurisdiction of the local police service.

In all cases, regional RCMP services and local partner police agencies will be advised of the event and all other relevant information.

It is recommended that information concerning upcoming official events be forwarded to the Office of Protocol at least five (5) business days in advance of the event to ensure that the appropriate authorities have sufficient time to adequately assess any necessary security needs.

The process outlined above also applies to notifications to the Office of Protocol and RCMP of the travel itineraries of Heads of Mission.
