Wheras the Parties, by signing a free-trade agreement on December5, 1996, set as a fundamental objective the establishment of a free-trade zone and the gradual elimination of their tariffs, in order to facilitate the movement of goods and services between their territories,
Whereas the Government of the Republic of Chile signed a free-trade agreement with the Government of the United States of America on June6, 2003, and this Agreement took effect on January1, 2004,
Whereas the Government of the Republic of Chile, in a letter from the Chilean Chief Negotiator to the Canadian Chief Negotiator dated November12, 1996, which is an integral part of the Free-Trade Agreement between the Parties, promised to give Canada the same tariff treatment as the United States of America with respect to certain agricultural products,
In accordance with what is specified in Note1 of the Annex A "List of Chile's Tariff Reductions",
Agree as follows:
Tariff Items: 0203.11.00 B 0203.12.00 B 0203.19.00 B 0203.21.00 B 0203.22.10 B 0203.22.20 – 0203.22.90 - 0203.29.10 – 0203.29.20 –
0203.29.30 – 0203.29.90 (fresh, refrigerated or frozen pork).
b) Customs duties on goods from the other Party, classified in the following tariff items will be eliminated in four years:
Tariff Items: 0201.10.00 B 0201.20.00 B 0201.30.10 B 0201.30.20 – 0201.30.90 - 0202.10.00 B 0202.20.00 B 0202.30.10 – 0202.30.20 – 0202.30.90 (fresh, refrigerated or frozen beef).
2. The first year will run from the date on which this Protocol enters into force until December31, 2004, and the other years from January1 to December31 of the year in question.
This Protocol is an implementation agreement of the Free Trade Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the Republic of Chile, and will enter into force on the day following the date of the last notification in which one of the Parties communicates to the other, through diplomatic channels, that it has fulfilled the necessary internal requirements, under its own legislation.
In witness whereof, the undersigned, duly authorized by their respective governments, have signed this Protocol.
