Canada-Cameroon Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA)
In 2011, Canada and Cameroon entered into negotiations for a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA). The Agreement was signed by Minister Fast and his Cameroonian counterpart on March 3, 2014, in Toronto.
A bilateral FIPA will provide greater predictability and certainty for Canadian investors considering investment opportunities in Cameroon. Canada’s objective in entering FIPA negotiations is to secure a comprehensive, high-quality agreement which will protect investors through the establishment of a framework of legally binding rights and obligations.
