Canada and Vietnam held their ninth round of Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) negotiations August 29 – 31, 2012 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
A bilateral FIPA will provide greater predictability and certainty for Canadian investors considering investment opportunities in Vietnam. Canada’s objective in entering these negotiations is to secure a comprehensive, high-quality agreement which will protect investors through the establishment of a framework of legally binding rights and obligations.
As a growing and dynamic market, Vietnam is of increasing interest to Canadian investors, with significant investment opportunities in a variety of sectors including manufacturing, natural resources, and financial services, among others.
