World Trade Organization (WTO)

The WTO administers the rules governing trade between its 153 Members. Established in 1995, the WTO provides its Members with a forum for trade negotiations; for the review of Members' trade policies and practices, and other technical assistance activities; and for settling disputes between them.

Seventh World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial Conference

The Seventh Session of the WTO Ministerial Conference was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 30 November to 2 December 2009. The conference was attended by 153 WTO Members who met to take stock of the functioning and accomplishments of the WTO. Ministers reviewed key areas of WTO activity, including the dispute settlement system, the trade policy review mechanism and the accessions process and discussed what steps could be taken to continue strengthening the work of the organisation. Canada was represented by International Trade Minister Stockwell Day and Agriculture and Agrifood Canada Minister Gerry Ritz
