Canada is a member of the OECD and adheres to the Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises, of which the Guidelines are an integral part. All adhering countries must have a National Contact Point (NCP).

Canada's NCP is an interdepartmental committee chaired by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada at the Director General level. Partner members include Industry Canada, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Finance Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency

The main responsibilities of Canada’s NCP are:

  • promoting the Guidelines in Canada
  • contributing to communication and resolution of issues raised through specific instances
  • responding to enquiries
  • cooperating with other NCPs
  • reporting annually to the OECD on its activities

The Canada's NCP promotes the Guidelines through outreach to companies and business associations, Canadian Embassies and Consulates abroad as well as participating in international conferences and supporting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
