Privacy Notice Statement: FIPA consultations

Participate in the consultation

To participate online, please visit our consultation page on PlaceSpeak.

For alternate formats, please contact Global Affairs Canada via email at FIPA Consultations.

Global Affairs Canada is committed to protecting the privacy rights of individuals and to respecting the personal privacy of individuals who visit our websites, in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act. This includes those who participate in consultations such as this one for foreign investment promotion and protection agreements (FIPAs).

FIPAs are bilateral agreements in which signatory countries commit to provide greater predictability and certainty to each other’s investors. They protect Canadian investments abroad and signal that Canada welcomes foreign investment at home. Global Affairs Canada is seeking the views of the Canadian public and interested stakeholders through a multi-step consultation process on how Canada’s international trade and investment agreements can best reflect its progressive trade agenda.

The information is collected under the authority of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act, section 10(2)(e): “foster the expansion of Canada’s international trade and commerce.”

The information you provide is voluntary, and you may, without prejudice, decide not to participate in this consultation process.

A third-party platform, PlaceSpeak.com, hosts the online engagement on behalf of Global Affairs Canada. Before registering, please carefully review the PlaceSpeak Privacy Policy.

Should you decide to provide a submission, it is important to know that your submission constitutes your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of the information provided therein, subject to certain exceptions as per the Privacy Act.

Information received from submissions will be summarized into a report and shared within Global Affairs Canada. The report will not contain any personal information that could potentially be used to identify you.

Your personal information will be retained in accordance with the Personal Information Bank: Outreach Activities (PSU 938). All personal information collected will be destroyed at the end of the FIPA consultation process.

Should you not wish to register with PlaceSpeak, you can still participate in the consultation process. Send us a letter to the address below or email FIPA consultations, and we will provide you with the background information and relevant questions on which we would like your opinion, comments or suggestions.
