2016-04-25 - The Afghan Child Education and Care Organization (AFCECO), founded by Andeisha Farid, inaugurated a new home in Kabul for orphan girls on April 2, 2016. Known as the New Mehan Orphanage, the facility provides care and education for about eighty Afghan girls. The new facility joins 11 other orphanages operated by AFCECO in Afghanistan and Pakistan that serve both girls and boys.
2016-01-21 - On behalf of the Embassy of Canada to Afghanistan, Ambassador Deborah Lyons was honored to host two seminars on January 5 and 6, 2016, featuring Karim-Aly Kassam, International Professor of Environmental and Indigenous Studies at Cornell University, presenting his research findings. The seminars provided unique opportunities for Dr. Kassam, who is Canadian, to engage with Afghan officials from various institutions, including Mustafa Zahir, head of Afghanistan’s National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA), and university professors and students.
2015-11-24 - Poverty is one of the reasons Afghan girls don’t attend school. Girls tend to stay home to help their families with chores, such as harvesting food or fetching water and firewood. The attitudes of parents and family members toward education help determine who in the household can attend school and for how long, and girls more often face restrictions in some parts of Afghanistan.

We believe that sustainable peace is only possible when women and other affected groups are involved and in July 2012, Canada reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to Afghan women.
