Death abroad
Depending on where the person actually dies. In the case where the death takes place at a home: the remains are taken to emergency department in a hospital, preferably a Government hospital first for the doctors to certify that indeed the person is dead thereafter the remains can be taken to a private mortuary by those related to the deceased. Post mortem can be done at the hospital in order to find out the cause of death. A Report is then issued by a physician stating the cause of death.
If the cause of death is suicide: the remains are kept at a Government Hospital mortuary pending investigations.
If the cause of death is by a car accident, the remains are taken to the hospital morgue. The Police Officers who are dealing with the case are required to inform the Commissioner of Police who in turn will inform the relevant Ministry. The latter is required to inform the Consulate/Embassy about the case and every department plays its part accordingly. The Police will be responsible for the remains till they get to the stage of post-mortem.
Legal matters
This is done on a case by case basis. Sometimes it is not necessary to engage a lawyer immediately, because some of the cases are solved without appearing in court.
