Constitutional monarchy

Type of Government:
Sovereign and independent State in virtue of the international law and particular conventions with France. It is a constitutional and hereditary monarchy headed by the Prince. The Minister of State (appointed by the Prince) heads the Council of Government, comprising five Counsellors of Government (ministers that are accountable to the Prince). The legislative power is also shared with the National Council, a unicameral parliament (24 members elected by universal vote). The powers of the Prince and his government are set out in the Constitution, adopted in 1962, and modified in 2002.
