Ahlan wa sahlan!

I want to begin on a personal note. I am deeply grateful to be back in Lebanon. This is my second posting here, and returning feels a little like coming home. Lebanon matters to Canada—not only because of our diplomatic work, but also because of the deep people-to-people ties. With more than 400,000 Canadians of Lebanese origin, the diaspora enriches Canada’s social and economic fabric every day. And it means that wherever you go in Lebanon, you are never far from a fellow Canadian, or from someone with a close and personal connection to Canada.

I am equally honoured to serve as Canada’s Ambassador to Syria. Since 2015, Canada has welcomed over 100,000 Syrian refugees and has been among the leading humanitarian donors to the Syrian people. Now, as Syria embarks on a new chapter, there is a renewed sense of possibility. Canada is ready to contribute to the country’s recovery, to support its transition, and to help build the foundations of a brighter future.
