Don't become a victim of fraud

If the offer seems too good to be true, it is probably fraud.

Unfortunately, job scams to work in Canada are on the rise. Scammers are increasingly using more sophisticated methods and hundreds of people are falling victim to fraud.

The best way to protect yourself from fraud, before paying for the services of an alleged recruiter, is to write to the Embassy to confirm that the offer is authentic.

Indicators that the offer could be a scam

• You are asked to come to the Embassy for an interview or for the delivery of your visa or work permit
• They guarantee that the visa will be issued
• They assure you they have contacts at the Embassy or they are authorized by the Embassy to issue visas or work permits
• They advise you to lie on your form
• You are asked to make deposits to a personal account for the processing of the visa or work permit
• They tell you that your visa or work permit will be ready after you have paid them
• They offer you to process a tourist visa and get you a job once in Canada
• They offer permanent residency in Canada for you and your family
• They offer you a job with a salary that is too high to be real
• They offer to get you a visa without having secured an employment 

Indicators that the offer could be authentic

• The recruiter has the specific name of the Canadian employer you will be working with, the occupation, location, dates and wages.
• The recruiter explains the process of obtaining a work permit clearly and in detail.
• The recruiter advises there are established fees for the work permit process only.
• In the case of Seasonal Agricultural Workers, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) is in charge of providing the information clearly and precisely. In this case, there is no authorized representative or intermediary who charges for services to participate in this program. You have to go directly to the offices of the National Employment Service and the service is free.
