We are all with Colombia: Canada helps Colombia with its COVID-19 response

Press Release
April 8, 2020 – Bogotá – Colombia – Embassy of Canada to Colombia

Today, the Embassy of Canada to Colombia announced that it will support the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection’s nationwide response to health and psychological challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Canada’s Ambassador to Colombia, Marcel Lebleu spoke about Canada’s support: "Canada and Colombia have a longstanding and close relationship. Both of our countries are facing unprecedented challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. Canada is pleased to support the Government of Colombia’s efforts to provide essential health services during this crisis, including to the most vulnerable."

The Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection Services is using telephone and digital hotlines to answer questions from the public related to COVID-19.  Canada’s CAD $340,000 contribution via the Panamerican Development Foundation (FUPAD) will support the hiring of 42 new employees as phone operators and telemedicine experts to provide public information, guidance and advice and to identify cases which require referral to medical centers.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a global threat that does not recognize borders and can only be overcome through coordinated action all around the world. This is why the Canadian government also announced April 5th  the allocation of $159.5 million in funding to support international efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will go to the WHO, UNHCR, WFP, International Committee Red Cross, IOM and other trusted partners.
