Canada and Türkiye hold second meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO)
Ottawa, January 20, 2026 — Canada hosted the second meeting of the Canada–Türkiye Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) in Ottawa, bringing together senior officials to advance bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
The meeting was cochaired by Rob Stewart, Deputy Minister of International Trade at Global Affairs Canada, and Mustafa Tuzcu, Deputy Minister for Trade of the Republic of Türkiye.
The cochairs emphasized the importance of the meeting, convened at a moment when Canada and Türkiye seek to boost economic ties. They highlighted recent high-level engagements, including a meeting between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in September, as well as discussions between the countries’ Ministers of International Trade and Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
The JETCO meeting provided an opportunity to review developments in global and bilateral trade policy since the inaugural Committee meeting in 2019. The two countries discussed a wide range of economic issues with the shared objective of expanding trade, increasing investment, and deepening economic cooperation.
