Authorization to publish photos and travel stories of former participants 

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals with respect to the personal information under our control, respecting the privacy rights of individuals and safeguarding the confidentiality of information provided by individuals and companies. 

International Experience Canada is a travel and work abroad initiative of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. Created to facilitate travel and work abroad for both Canadian citizens interested in going abroad and non-Canadians interested in coming to Canada, International Experience Canada manages the bilateral reciprocal youth mobility arrangements and agreements that Canada has signed with various countries around the world to offer travel authorization and temporary work permits for up to one year. 

Former participants who were able to travel or work abroad thanks to International Experience Canada are being asked to share their personal stories and travel photos. Personal stories about travelling and working abroad are an excellent source of information for our future participants. 

The information we are requesting is required by the Department so we can publish your stories, photos and/or videos on our website:http://www.international.gc.ca/experience/. 

The information we are requesting (name, email address and your personal stories, photos and videos) is regarded as personal information under the Privacy Act. Personal information” is defined as any information about an identifiable individual. For further details about the definition of personal information, click on http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/P-21/index.htmland consult section 3 of the Act.  

The personal information described above is collected under the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Act (R.S.C., 1985, c. E-22)

The personal information you provide will not be used for administrative purposes, nor has it been created or organized so it can be retrieved by a personal identifier. Provision of the information requested in this document is voluntary and you may, without prejudice, decline to respond. 

The personal information collected will be retained for 10 years and then destroyed.  

Subject to certain exceptions, the individuals to whom the information pertains have the right to the protection of and access to their personal information, as provided for under the Privacy Act

Additional information about the personal information collected and used as part of the International Experience Canada initiative is provided in the Department’s Personal Information Bank DFAIT PPU 901, which is described at www.infosource.gc.ca.


By submitting your personal stories as a former participant, you agree to allow your personal data as described above to be collected and used for the following purposes:

  • So we can post your stories, videos and photos on our Internet site in Canada and/or on the Internet sites of our missions abroad, and so we can have them translated into Canada’s other official language
  • So a third party can read the text for a recording to be used as a podcast on the Department’s website
