About the Canadian Foreign Service Institute
The Canadian Foreign Service Institute is the primary training provider for Global Affairs Canada.
Our main role is to provide high calibre, timely learning programs and services in the areas of international affairs, languages, intercultural effectiveness, global leadership, and international and domestic operations.
Learning activities are provided at no charge to Global Affairs Canada personnel and on a cost-recovery basis to our external partners including other government departments.

Organizational structure
The Institute is a centre for professional development. It consists of four centres.
- Centre for Learning in Intercultural Effectiveness and International Assistance Policy: provides training in intercultural effectiveness and international assistance.
- Centre for Learning in International Affairs and Global Leadership: offers training in international affairs, trade, global politics, and leadership.
- Centre for Learning Services: plans, organizes, and coordinates activities related to the overall management of the Institute.
- Centre for Foreign Languages: offers foreign language learning and testing.
Learning partners
We work with other training providers, both within Global Affairs Canada and across the federal government including the Canada School of Public Service.
