Privacy Notice Statement

Global Affairs Canada is committed to protecting the privacy rights of individuals and safeguarding the personal information under its control in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act.

“Personal information” is defined as any information, in any form, about an identifiable individual, including details of an individual’s personal experiences, opinions or views. Please refer to section 3 of the Privacy Act for further details regarding personal information.

During this consultation process, personal information is being collected under the authority of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act, sections 10(2)(d) and 10(2)(k) with respect to the minister’s duties and functions under the Export and Import Permits Act.

The information you provide is voluntary, and you may, without prejudice, decide not to participate in this consultation process.

Your personal information will be retained in accordance with the Personal Information Bank: Outreach Activities (PSU 938). If you give your consent for the collection and use of your personal information (i.e. contact information), this information will be retained in our record holdings until such time that you ask that it be removed.

Global Affairs Canada is also committed to safeguarding the confidentiality of commercial information provided by companies. Please note that respondents are not obliged to provide any such information, and the department will not share externally any information received through this consultation that is of a commercially confidential nature. Likewise, if there is information that you do not wish to be further reproduced in any form, please indicate this in your written response.

Please be advised that Global Affairs Canada may publish reports, internally or externally, that contain summaries of submissions received. These reports will not contain any personal information that could potentially be used to identify you or your organization. To further protect your personal information, you are asked not to include any information in the open text fields that can identify you or another individual.

You have the right to the protection of your personal information, which will be stored in Global Affairs Canada’s corporate repository on a secure server, accessible only by those with a working need to do so. You have the right to access your personal information and request corrections if you believe there is an error(s) or omission(s). You may contact Global Affairs Canada’s Access to Information and Privacy Protection Division to exercise these rights. If you are outside of Canada, not a Canadian citizen or not a permanent resident, you can ask a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to act as your representative to make a request on your behalf. You will need to give your written consent for this action. If requesting access to or correction of your personal information, please refer to this specific consultation by name and date of undertaking. Lastly, individuals have the right to file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada regarding Global Affairs Canada’s handling of their personal information.
