Objectives
The Technical Assistance Partnership (TAP) program promotes Canada’s leadership around the world. TAP connects Canadian expertise with governments and public institutions in partner countries that are eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA). TAP is activated when a partner country’s needs align with Canada’s expertise and objectives.
Program parameters
TAP focuses its support on national-level government entities in ODA-eligible partner countries. It funds short-term technical assistance initiatives.
Project activities can include:
- mobilizing Canadian experts to share Canada’s best practices and develop tools or technologies
- in-person and virtual support to improve policies, regulations and service delivery
- knowledge-sharing events such as:
- training sessions
- conferences
- webinars
- technical visits to Canada
We implement TAP through two mechanisms:
- TAP-Expert Deployment Mechanism
- TAP-Government of Canada
TAP-Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM)
TAP-EDM mobilizes Canadian experts from across the country. They come from diverse sectors and backgrounds to meet the needs of ODA-eligible country partners.
The expertise comes from:
- Canadian private sector
- academia
- civil society
- provincial and municipal public sector
Canadian experts include:
- mining engineers
- economists
- gender equality specialists
- public health experts
- etc.
TAP-Government of Canada (TAP-GoC)
TAP-GoC deploys specialized expertise from the Government of Canada. TAP-GoC collaborates with:
- Natural Resources Canada to deploy natural resources experts
- Department of Justice Canada to deploy lawyers and legal experts
- Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs to deploy Canadian judges
How to get involved
