September 2025

On 16 September 2025 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an appeal for an emergency relief operation to support the DRC Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 965,000 people. The operation will aim to rapidly curb transmission, prevent outbreak expansion and reduce mortality. The activities will include Safe and Dignified Burials, Mental Health and Psychosocial support, assistance in the sectors of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Risk Communication and Community Engagement.

Pakistan – Flood

September 2025

On 30 August 2025 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an appeal for an emergency relief operation to support the Pakistan Red Crescent Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 250,000 people. The operation will focus on the provision of emergency assistance in areas as such as water and sanitation, health and shelter.

Cape Verde – Flood

August 2025

On 28 August 2025 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an appeal for an emergency relief operation to support the Red Cross Society of Cape Verde in providing immediate assistance to approximately 119,000 people. The operation will focus on providing emergency assistance in areas as such as shelter, livelihoods, water and sanitation and health services.

Nigeria – Acute malnutrition

May 2025

On 26 May 2025 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an appeal for an emergency relief operation to support the Nigerian Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 1 million people. The operation will focus on providing assistance in areas as such as health and care, including water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition education and community engagement, as well as protection.

Uganda – Ebola outbreak

On 14 February 2025 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an appeal for an emergency relief operation to support the Uganda Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance. This operation aims to support 520,000 people most affected and to support the response to the outbreak through treatment, contact tracing, early detection and surveillance in the most at-risk districts.

On 20 December 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency plan of action to support the Angola Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 2,500 people for three months. On 26 May 2022, the IFRC launched a revised emergency appeal to support the Angola Red Cross Society in providing additional assistance to approximately 329,000 people for twelve months. The operation will focus on the provision of multipurpose cash or vouchers to allow households to meet food and other needs, as well as support for supplemental nutrition services, safe water and sanitation, and healthcare in affected communities.

On January 28, 2022, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Tanzania Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 500 households (approximately 2,500 people) people for 3 months. The operation will focus on providing cash grants in the districts of Longido and Monduli in Arusha and the Kiteto, Simanjiro and Mbulu districts in Manyara province to support the immediate needs of the most vulnerable food insecure households, including orphans and vulnerable children, female and child-headed households pregnant and lactating women, elderly and people living with disabilities, and chronically ill people. Following a needs assessment, additional health and nutrition services may be offered.

Panama – Floods

On 29 July 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Red Cross Society of Panama in providing immediate assistance to approximately 4,000 people for three months. The operation will focus on emergency health, livelihoods and basic needs, water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter and protection needs using gender and inclusive approaches.

Algeria – Forest wildfires

On August 18, 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Algerian Red Crescent in providing immediate assistance to up to 25,000 people (5,000 households) for four months. The operation will focus on provision of humanitarian support including food, mattresses, blankets, tents, personal protective equipment, and the provision of shelter.

Iran – Droughts

On August 2, 2021 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Iranian Red Crescent Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 83,200 people for 5 months. The operation will focus on emergency medical assistance, livelihoods and basic needs as well as water, sanitation and hygiene services for crisis-affected people.

North Macedonia – Wildfires

On August 20, 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia in providing immediate assistance to approximately 12,612 people (4,204 families), in addition to approximately 3,000 fire fighters and community volunteers for four months. The operation will focus on provision of support to extinguish fires, as well as providing assistance to the firefighting teams and the local population, including food, water, hygiene parcels, blankets, mattresses, bedding, kitchen sets and other necessary items.

Panama – Population movement

On August 19, 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Panamanian Red Cross Society (PRCS) in providing immediate assistance to approximately 6,000 migrants for three months. The operation will focus on the provision of shelter, healthcare, psychosocial support, water, hygiene and sanitation. PRCS will provide to care to 6,000 migrants with priority given to pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with disabilities, unaccompanied minors, single-parent families, and elderly.

Ethiopia – Food insecurity

On 27 August 2021 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency appeal to support the Ethiopia Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 8,000 people for four months. The operation will focus on the provision of unconditional cash grants to conflict-affected households to help meet basic food and other needs, as well as public messaging campaigns to raise awareness of hygiene and protection issues in targeted communities in Ethiopia’s Amhara region.

Kenya – Drought and food insecurity

On 17 August 2021 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency appeal to support the Kenya Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 60,000 people for three months. On 9 September 2021, following the declaration of a state of emergency by Kenyan authorities, the IFRC launched a revised emergency appeal to support the Kenya Red Cross Society in providing additional assistance to approximately 500,000 people for eighteen months. The operation will focus on the provision of in-kind food or unconditional cash grants to households to help meet food and other needs, nutrition and healthcare support to affected households and communities, safe water and sanitation services in communities impacted by drought, and improved protection services for at-risk groups or individuals.

Niger – Cholera outbreak

On September 4, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Niger Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 35,000 people for four months. The operation will focus on meeting immediate water, sanitation and hygiene needs in the cholera epidemic-affected regions of Maradi, Tahoua and Niamey through the distribution of hygiene kits, as well as infection, prevention and control measures and cholera awareness in affected communities.

Iraq – Drought response

On September 2, 2021 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency drought relief operation to support the Iraqi Red Crescent Society in providing immediate assistance to up to 43,116 people (7,186 households) for six months. The operations will provide assistance to local populations in Diyala, Ninewa and Basra governorates, through emergency multi-purpose cash, health support, and water, sanitation and hygiene assistance.

Malaysia – Flash floods

On 30 August 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Malaysian Red Crescent Society in providing immediate assistance to 1,080 people for three months. The operation will focus on multi-purpose cash assistance, livelihoods support, hygiene promotion, protection and mental health and psychosocial support.

On 4 September 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Nepal Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to 7,500 people for six months. The operation will focus on health, livelihoods, protection, shelter and water, sanitation and hygiene.

Uganda – Floods and landslides

On 12 October 2021 the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency appeal to support the Uganda Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 11,000 people for three months. The operation will focus on the provision of essential non-food items (such as blankets, jerry cans, mosquito nets, laundry soap, mats, solar lamps and kitchen sets) to displaced households, as well as support for safe water and sanitation services and healthcare in affected communities throughout Uganda.

South Africa – Urban violence

On 23 July 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the South Africa Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 2,500 people for four months. The operation will focus on the provision of essential healthcare; water, sanitation, and hygiene supplies and services; and multi-purpose cash grants to households affected by civil unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces.

Somalia – Drought (Revised July 2021)

On 15 May 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the Somalia Red Crescent Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 121,000 people for four months. On 18 July 2021 the IFRC launched a revised emergency appeal to support the Somalia Red Crescent Society in providing additional assistance to approximately 564,000 people for eighteen months. The operation will focus on the provision of essential healthcare; water, sanitation, and hygiene supplies and services; and livelihoods support, including multi-purpose cash grants, to households affected by drought in the Puntland and Somaliland regions of Somalia.

Nigeria – Hunger crisis

On 28 June 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency appeal to support the Nigeria Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 200,000 people for eighteen months. The operation will focus on the provision of essential healthcare; water, sanitation, and hygiene supplies and services; and livelihoods support, including multi-purpose cash grants, to households affected by acute food insecurity in northwest and north central Nigeria.

South Sudan – Food insecurity

On 14 June 2021, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency relief operation to support the South Sudan Red Cross Society in providing immediate assistance to approximately 10,500 people for four months. The operation will focus on the provision of cash assistance, livelihood activities including establishing women-led community kitchen gardens, access to clean drinking water through repairs to existing boreholes, and disaster risk reduction through strengthening community disaster response teams. The operation will include a focus on female-headed households, pregnant and breastfeeding women, children under five years and other groups disproportionately impacted by food insecurity.
