Global Affairs Canada (GAC) is committed to protecting the privacy rights of individuals and safeguarding the personal information under its control in accordance with the Privacy Act. “Personal information” is defined as any information about an identifiable individual. Please refer to section 3 of the Privacy Act for further details.
The personal information you provide is collected under the authority of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act, for the purpose of responding to your enquiry, verifying your identity, determining eligibility for consular services, and connecting you with the nearest Canadian office abroad.
The personal information collected—including your name and location—will be used by GAC to respond to your enquiry and, where necessary, to verify your identity using internal consular systems. Your personal information will not be shared outside GAC unless authorized or required by law.
Your personal information will be retained and disposed of in accordance with the Privacy Act and stored according to the Personal Information Bank PPU 010 (Consular Affairs – Assistance to Canadians). You have the right to request access to your information and to request corrections where you believe there is an error or omission. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada regarding the handling of your personal information.
