Read Out: Minister Freeland speaks with foreign affairs minister of South Korea

During her bilateral visit to South Korea, Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Kang Kyung-wha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea. The bilateral meeting was an occasion for both ministers to discuss South Korea’s preparations for the inter-Korean summit in April 2018 and explore ways Canada can support this dialogue. Minister Freeland welcomed South Korea’s critical role in maintaining diplomatic and economic pressure on North Korea to achieve a peaceful, diplomatic solution to the North Korea crisis.

Ministers Freeland and Kang exchanged views on ways to enhance gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.

The two ministers also confirmed that they will continue working toward strengthening the bilateral economic relationship, including through the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement, and discussed the importance of the global rules-based trading system.
