Canada’s National Contact Point Follow Up Statement – Justice Beyond Borders / Justice for Iran and Genetec

In its Final Statement, the Canadian National Contact Point (NCP) recommends that Genetec consider elaborating and articulating its policy commitment to respect human rights in a single, publicly available policy document, drawing on OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct Chapter IV (Human Rights), paragraph 4, and the accompanying commentary. The NCP also encourages Genetec to consider publishing additional information on how its policy commitment is implemented through human rights due diligence, in line with Chapter IV (Human Rights), paragraph 5 of the Guidelines.

As indicated in the Final Statement, the NCP committed to following up six months after publication regarding this recommendation.

The follow-up with Genetec was conducted in December 2025. During this follow-up, Genetec provided information on steps taken to address the recommendation, including the development and publication of the company’s Human Rights Commitment.

The NCP notes positively that Genetec has published this commitment on its website, which directly references the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct. The statement outlines Genetec’s expectations with respect to its people, products, suppliers, and partners, and addresses issues such as privacy and responsible use of technology, and supply chain responsibility.

The NCP considers that this publicly available commitment responds to the recommendation to further articulate Genetec’s policy commitment to respect human rights in line with OECD Guidelines Chapter IV, paragraph 4, and its accompanying commentary.

The NCP also notes Genetec’s acknowledgement of the importance of human rights due diligence as an ongoing process and encourages continued consideration of how information on the implementation of human rights due diligence may be further communicated publicly, consistent with Chapter IV, paragraph 5 of the OECD Guidelines.

On this basis, the NCP considers that the recommendation has been addressed by the company and that the specific instance is now closed, in accordance with NCP procedures.

The NCP thanks both parties for their constructive engagement throughout the specific instance process.
